BioAfter 7 rather long (though quite enjoyable) years, I have completed my PhD in Geological and Planetary Sciences at Caltech and have moved on (though not in a geographical sense) to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as full-time staff. It's nice to see all the years of schooling pay off not only in having an absolute dream job (I get to work on spacecraft, in laboratories, and talk about Mars all day) but also in having a respectable salary.
I'm currently on temporary remote assignment to Tucson, AZ to work on the Phoenix Mars Lander Mission. I'm in particular responsible for the TECP (Thermal and Electrical Conductivity Probe) which is part of the MECA (Microscopy, Electrochemistry, and Conductivity Analyzer) instrument package. Unless you live in a box, you've heard about this mission and how well it's doing. Rock on! I'm also much interested in Aerospace Engineering and the rising field of Nanotechnology.
I am gay and formerly quite active in the leather/SM/kink/fetish world. I say "formerly" because the final years of a PhD really take a lot out of a person. I haven't been out to leather / fetish events with any regularity for at least two years. Once I'm back it LA from Tucson, though, I hope to make a big, splashy return to the scene.
More than happy to talk about any aspect of my interests (in whatever area) with anyone curious enough to ask.
I'm originally from Houston and have lived in Boston and the Bay Area. Currently, 90% of my stuff is in storage in LA and given my permanent position at JPL, and the fact that I hope to buy a house there within the next year, I'll most likely be living there for the forseeable future.
